I am Corrina Yeo, born and raised in Singapore in a Chinese family. The beginning of this journey took off with the growing interest in art at the age of 16 right after graduating out of high school. Realising art is my only passion has embarked me on this journey of endless discovering and pursuing further education in upgrading my skills. Over the years I had spent in LaSalle College Of The Arts in Singapore, where I had also developed foundational skills that led me to wonder what I can do with them and how I can share such knowledge. That’s when I thought of my late grandfather who was an art teacher himself, also a self-taught art practitioner. Therefore, I was then more inspired to keep this up with a renewed goal, gaining new perspectives in the society back then when he had to pursue teaching children privately.
I believe to be a good teacher; one has to be a better learner. Therefore, I knew in order to widen my eyes and be more experience is to just be out in the world and take on new challenges. I had then decided to further upgrade my skills by applying for Bachelor at Winchester School of Arts in 2014 which had been the best decision I have ever made. For I had learnt so much more than I ever could, as I deliberately wanted to be in different place far from my comfort zone and to also understand the way things work in European countries. I was given the idea of what the English education system is like and how one would go about it as a student, as an artist and a teacher. Having had travel to many places, gaining new experiences, I definitely found myself becoming more confident and clear in approaching anything and thanks to the lecturers that had been so encouraging allowing me to be unafraid of voicing out in a group. Not only that, the journey of sharing subconscious thought processing which we, art students must learn to explore on a deeper level of understanding. And now, arriving where I am right now, coming to Ireland for the first time, the diversity is evident which makes me feel right at home once again like it was for me in the UK. So far, I can conclude, teaching is a series of lifelong lessons and teachers I found can learn just as much as students too.
